Winter Birding Tips for Beginners

Bird watching in the winter months can be a lot of fun and rewarding. There are well over thirty various bird species that can be spotted giving a visit to backyard feeders and bird houses in Pa by means of the months of winter. It is frequently enjoyable to keep a record of and track the amount of separate forms of birds that pay a pay a visit to your yard. In the end, the diversity of separate bird species you will have visit your setting will vary on some factors with perhaps the most significant being how nearby you are to a woods or areas with a lot of trees. According to the PSU College of Agricultural Sciences, one backyard in southeastern Pennsylvania saw 25 separate bird species over a single winter time, but this is not characteristic of most locations.

To get on it watching birds, you should first get to know slightly about the most familiar birds in your area. A ground guide can be markedly handy. You can pay a visit you local library for a good area guide or pick one up at a book store or one of the several sites that offer them online. But to get started, you can easily just exploration and learn about the most common species of birds and how you can go about attracting them to your .

According to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the top ten most familiar birds seen in PA are the dark eyed junco, mourning dove, tufted titmouse, northern cardinal, blue jay, white breasted nuthatch, downy woodpecker, house finch, American goldfinch, and black capped chickadee.

To entire various species to your position, you should set up feeders with various bird seeds. There is an enormous multiplicity of bird food you can pay for, and each will entice a different species of birds. Small species of birds like chickadees, titmice, and nuthatches will frequently go for black oil sun flower seeds. Jaybirds and Cardinals like the striped sunflower seeds. Woodpeckers, chickadees, blue jays, and tit mice will repeatedly each peanuts. Other generalized seeds include white proso millet and thistle. An affordable seed is the white proso millet, but many bird watching enthusiasts stay away from it because it attracts less wanted species like the brown-headed cowbird and house sparrow. Thistle or niger seed can be used to entice finches. You can also purchase seed mixes that can be used to draw a multiplicity of separate species. In my perspective, if you’re going to purchase one sort of seed, the one to go with is the black-oil sunflower seed which attracts several generalized smaller species of birds.

Bird watching or birding in the winter can be great fun and a cure to those winter blues. A great activity is to keep a notebook of the dates and times that you have identified certain species of birds. Try mixing up the times you watch for birds to see if separate species are visiting at separate times and if they come back on a daily basis.

Buying Cigars – A Beginners Guide

Choosing the Right Cigar:  Enjoying cigars is like tasting beer for the first time.  Taste is everything and if the product is cheap, you won’t enjoy it.  That is not to say that you cannot find good cigars at a reasonable price.  As a beginner, I recommend looking for a mild cigar to begin with.  A mild cigar will allow you to introduce your taste buds to the unique flavors in a cigar.  Some mild brands I recommend are Macanudo, Montecristo, Nat Sherman, CAO Gold, Rocky Patel Connecticut and Romeo y Julieta Reserva.  You will find all of these brands to be excellent and not too hard on the wallet.

Buying Cigars:  Purchasing cigars is a personal choice.  I have a friend who only buys from cigar shops.  He wants to have the immediate pleasure of having his cigars in hand.  However, cigar shops will charge you a premium for those cigars.  They have storage, rent, inventory, and basic overhead and those charges will be passed on to you.  With that said, there is something about having the opportunity to walk into a cigar store, actually smell, and touch the merchandise.

Online Buying:  I find that purchasing cigars through online stores is a more cost effective way to buy.  The online stores inventory is usually vast and their prices can be competitive.  Most online retailers will ship your order quickly and securely.  Their good reputation with customers is important for them to retain.

Online Auctions:  Another great way to buy cigars is through an online auction.  Many times, online auctions allow you to purchase cigars at a much reduced price.  I caution you though, know your prices before bidding.  The adrenaline rush of bidding on cigars can get the better of you.  If you’re not careful you could end up paying more than retail.

Remember to enjoy this adventure.  The cigar industry is continually growing, and with it, the opportunity to benefit from it.  Explore the many fan sites for cigars on the internet.  You will find that many cigar fans love to share their passion for cigars and are more than willing to lend a hand.

Choosing Cuban Cigars ? Best Cigar Types for Beginners

Over the past few decades, the popularity of tobacco products has been in flux. Advanced scientific research has discovered that smoking tobacco products, especially those that have been grown and treated with chemical additives, is very dangerous to the health of human beings.

Smoking on a regular basis has been linked to several types of cancer, and other negative health conditions. However, cigars are different than cigarettes, and if enjoyed on a less than daily basis, there is no proof that they can contribute to decreased health. If you’re thinking about choosing Cuban cigars for the first time, here are some beginner tips to keep in mind.

Before you can start choosing Cuban cigars like a pro, you have to learn how to distinguish the imposters from the genuine article. Because cigar salespeople understand the high demand for this quality product, they have developed ways of packaging cheap cigars so that they look like the more expensive Cubans.

To an inexperienced cigar smoker, these differences can be very hard to detect. The first and most important thing to do is flip over the box and look for the heat stamp that reads “Habanos s.a. HECHO EN CUBA Totalmente a mano.” If these words are missing, or if they are stamped in ink instead, you’ll know that you’re holding fake Cubans.

Once you’ve determined that you’re shopping in a store that offers the real thing, it’s time to get more specific about choosing Cuban cigars.

Most beginners will be unfamiliar with the thick taste and smoke that are produced by a real Cuban cigar, and so it’s best to gravitate toward the brands that are a little more on the mild side.

Guantanamera is one of the newest brands of Cuban cigar to hit the market, and many critics feel that it is the best choice for beginning smokers. The tobacco in these cigars is grown in the Vuelta Arriba region and makes a mild and light bodied cigar.

If you’re going to be traveling to Cuba and want to know which domestic brands to look for while you’re there, be sure to keep an eye out for the Jose L. Piedra. This brand is extremely popular among Cuban natives, because it’s far lighter than many of the full bodied Cuban brands.

The aroma of these cigars is mild to medium, and they are made using a hybrid process of machine-bunching and hand-finishing.

Joe Silva is a passionate Cuban cigar aficionado and is also an expert in cigar-making, etiquette and humidors. He has been collecting and enjoying cigars for nearly 20 years and has since been advising many cigar enthusiasts on everything from the history of Cuban cigars to choosing the right humidor for effective cigar storing. Joe also receives over a hundred enquiries everyday on how to purchase some of the finest cigars available online.
