Soundtrack from The Mod Squad (MGM 1999), relaesed on WEA/ Elektra label. NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED. Lauryn Hill (LH): (Watch this…A-ah) Exhausting every chance These victims of circumstance Dancing the circle of confusion With cold muses Grab their soul with a tight grip Then uses up All your power While the weak man he loses And is deep how Whenever man speak now he refuses To remember the abuses And all the people he misuses And there ain’t no excuses Cos in every situation man chooses His own plate, his own fate, his own date At redemption, and only fools and babies get exemption Cos, in the hereafter school, see we all stay for detention And did I mention It’s either ascention or dessention, no third dimension, so pay attention… Curtis Mayfield (LH in background): How did I get so far gone Where do I belong And where in the world did I ever go wrong If I took the time to replace What my mind erased I still feel as if I’m here but I’m gone Porched up in a rocking-chair With my feet all bare Rolling my blunt in a cigar wrap Live an adolescent mind Never do take the time Waiting for my high, quiet as it’s kept How did I get so far gone Where do I belong And where in the world did I ever go wrong If I took the time to replace What my mind erased I still feel as if I’m here but I’m gone Mama told me I was best Argue and punch in my chest “Son now be strong, let me take you home” I’d see in her eyes so sincere Screaming, what got me here Standing in the world …
I remember hearing this song in elementary school and never found out who it was. Then I picked up New World Order last year and it was like an epiphany realizing it was Curtis Mayfield. 5 stars.
Excellent song, can’t help listening to it in loops
@Sparximou also try pandora or grooveshark
He’s on Warner Brothers. They take the sound off of all You Tube Posts. So you won’t find Sly and the Family Stone or Prince either. Some live stuff stays up though.
SOMEBODY GETS IT!!.
Mr.Produca ,Please call me…..
this is a perfect combination of the two. most of the time ppl take two artists music and force them together and it comes out tacky but its something magical about this. props to da producer
She is simply the epitome of beautiful hands down! I so wish she would come back and bless us all!
Hymn
this song has got something magic..
Try “The Impressions”
Why is it so hard to find any Curtis Mayfield songs here? I’ve only found Pusherman, We Gotta Have Peace, and Freddie’s Dead.
its nice and different
It keeps me coming back.. EXCELLENT!!
Oh SOUL…it is so good to be alive! Ascension…………..yes…lets ascend like the Phoenixes we are.
this is a beutiful song who don’t like it step off!!!!!
You are so RIGHT, Ms Hill really confuses this compisition her moaning really draw away from the power of the song
Lauryn’s rapped verse/voice makes me want to melt
reminds me of a b-side classic..timeless music
All I can say that this really touches me. I miss you Mr Curtis Mayfield….Long live the artist
really really well done !!!!!!!!! , great job , beautiful addition to the original!!!!!!!!!!!
Loren Hill is a goddess
Listen to the soul in the voice, people.
No disrespect to this song. But they could have killed the rap in the intro and only a little of the call and response from lauren
and play up the two part harmonies more.
But Curtis saves it with the wisedom of his lyrics and singing.
Also did soundtrack for Three the Hard Way
ok, love this. Lauryn and Curtis. What more can you ask for?
